The Community

Sister Greta Ronningen, MA

Originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan, Sr. Greta
spent much of her youth in Albuquerque, New
Mexico. She holds a Masters Degree in Spiritual
Formation from Claremont School of Theology.
She serves as a chaplain in the Los Angeles                                                   County Jails and Juvenile Halls, working primarily                                             with both adult women and youth. Sr. Greta                                                   teaches yoga, with over 35 experience. She is a                                               spiritual director, writer and retreat leader. Sr.                                                 Greta enjoys gardening, the evidence of which can
be seen in the beautiful garden areas around the                                             monastery and the fresh vegetables on the table       
at meals. 

Brother Dennis Gibbs

Originally from Nampa, Idaho, Br. Dennis has 
lived in California since 1981, first in northern                                                 California, before settling in the Los Angeles area 
in 1991. A deacon in the Diocese of Los Angeles, 
he is the Director for Prism Restorative Justice, a 
ministry that provides spiritual care for the 
incarcerated in the Los Angeles County Jails and 
Juvenile Halls. Br.Dennis is a spiritual director, writer 
and retreat leader. Artistically inclined, he has 
restored a number of artifacts that now have made 
their home throughout the monastery. 

Sister Michelle Johnston (MJ)

Sr. MJ was admitted as a Novice on June 18 
at Vespers. She is a native of southern California.
As she enters the monastic life, Sr. MJ leaves a career in
Information Technology Management, most recently
with the City of Fontana, California. She has been a
member of All Saints Church in Pasadena, California
where she has been actively involved in several
ministries over the years including GALAS and Lay
Counseling. Sr. MJ's relationship with CDL began several
years ago when she was received as an Oblate and
has continued through the discernment experience
that has led to this moment in response to God's call
to the monastery. We are happy to have her with us.
